The foundation for Riverbreed was layed during the summer of 1997 when Jeff van Dockum (guitar/vocals) and guitarplayer Boudewijn Molendijk,
each playing in different bands at the time, decided to form a new band. That same year drummer Jos de Jong and bassplayer René den Toom joined their ranks.
The search for their own style resulted in the recording of the self-released album “Luminol”. This album got great reviews and the single “Isiah Me” was nominated for the Buzz Award on 3FM, a nationwide radiostation in Holland. The band also posted 2 songs on the website Ongekend Talent ("ongekend" means both unknown and extraordinary) and again they got great reviews.
Unfortunately bassplayer René den Toom had to leave the band and the long, long (did I mention long?) search for a new bassplayer started. Around the same time Jeff decided to stop singing in order to put more effort and energy in the "noble art" of guitarplaying. This started the discussion within the band whether they should kick his ass or encourage him. Well... he’s still with the band so the outcome is clear. Meanwhile loads and loads of bassplayers auditioned but none of them could fill René's shoes. And they still needed a new singer.
To cut a long story short, Daniëlle de Graaf was envited to audition and she came, sang and blew them away. One problem less to worry about. At the beginning of 2007 there was light at the end of the "bassless" tunnel when George de Ruiter stepped up and secured his place in the Riverbreedclan.
These days they find inspiration in bands such as Tool, Black Sabbath, A Perfect Circle, Soundgarden and Porcupine Tree. So: now there are 5 and they play loud, complex but especially they play as one!
